Tour in a nutshell:
This intimate look into India is for those who wish to see behind the scenes of various working artists and craftspeople. Augmenting visits to art and craft centers, museums, studio visits and workshops, participants will have a chance to observe traditional wood block carving and printing on cloth, experience in natural dyeing, a visit to a miniature painter's studio and engage in traditional as well as modern papermaking methods. Additionally, we will visit world renowned architectural treasures like the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort to immerse into the aesthetic landscape of India.

Transport: Private and public transport between cities and venues

Delhi, stay at in a hotel in Central Delhi and visit 3 privately owned museums in S. Delhi.
Day trip by chartered bus to visit the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.
Travel by chartered bus to Jaipur, a center for textile and architecture. We will visit the kagzis of Sanganer–one of the last few surviving families practicing papermaking as it was practiced in the 14th century.
2 days in Bagru– natural dyeing workshop.
Return to Delhi by chartered bus.
Fly to Chennai then take taxis to the coastal town of Pondicherry. Here we will visit the Gandhi Ashram and tour their papermaking facility. The following days will be spent in Auroville (20 min. drive from Pondicherry), taking a papermaking workshop at a Auroville Papers. The last day will be spent in Kanchipuram visiting silk weavers and temples dating back to late 7th century–early 8th century.
Return to Chennai, before departure.

Deposits are 85% refundable up until 3 months before the start date.
Full Tour Registration: approximately 3,500–4,000 USD for 15 nights (final cost depends on no. of participants)
Your registration fee includes transport between cities and venues, accommodations, entrance fees to museums and historical sites, workshop fees and most meals.
